When Amazon went public, in 1997, CEO Jeff Bezos wrote a letter to shareholders that outlined his central mission: “It’s all about the long term.” Fifteen years later, Bezos’s online retailing giant has added $111 billion in market cap and continues to disrupt its rivals. And still Amazon feels like a company that is playing a long game.
